Overview
Orthodontics is the care of tooth position and bite. Crowded teeth, gaps, a deep bite or a jaw that sits forward or back can make cleaning harder and chewing uneven. Braces are one way to move teeth. They are not the only way, and they are not started on the first sentence.
Duration depends on the case. Some visits last months; others take a few years. You will hear a range, not a guarantee, before anything is bonded.
Why this may be needed
People come for crowded front teeth, spacing, an uneven bite, a child whose teeth are coming through in a difficult order, or an adult who wants a straighter smile. Not every irregularity needs treatment. The consultation says whether movement is worthwhile.

What to expect
Records may include photographs, impressions or a scan, and X-rays when they change the plan. Brackets or another appliance are fitted only after you accept the outline. Review visits adjust the wires. Retainers after treatment are part of keeping the result.
Aftercare
Soft food for a day or two after adjustments, careful brushing around the braces, and keeping retainer wear as advised. Missed appointments slow the plan.
Questions people ask
Are braces only for children?
No. Adults are treated when the gums and bone are healthy enough. Age alone is not a barrier.
How long will I wear them?
It depends on the starting bite and how regularly you attend. A time range is given after assessment, not before.
