Scaling is a professional clean. It is not a cosmetic polish sold as a “glow-up”. It is gum care.
Overview
Brushing does not remove hardened tartar. Scaling lifts that deposit from the tooth and, when needed, a little under the gum. The gums can then sit closer to health. A polish may follow so the surface feels smooth.
Why this may be needed
Bleeding when you brush, persistent bad breath, visible yellow-brown deposit, or a long gap since the last clean are common reasons. Gum disease is diagnosed in the chair, not from a website list.

What to expect
The teeth are examined, then cleaned with instruments suited to the deposit. Sensitivity is managed as we go. You will be shown how to keep the result at home.
Aftercare
Gums may feel tender for a day. Warm salt water can help. Keep brushing even if there is a little bleeding at first — it usually settles as the gums recover.
