A dental implant is a small post placed in the jaw to hold a crown, or sometimes a denture. Bone has to be enough, gums have to be healthy, and medical history matters. Healing takes weeks to months before the tooth is fitted.
Why this may be needed
People consider implants to replace a missing tooth without joining neighbours, or to steady a loose denture. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and very little bone can make the plan unwise.
